What a Clean IMEI Check Does Not Prove
A clean IMEI means no blacklist report was found. It does not prove Find My is off, the phone is unlocked, or the seller owns it.
A clean IMEI check means the blacklist lookup did not find a carrier block for that number. Sellers shorten this to “clean IMEI” and hope you stop reading. The phrase is real, and it is narrow. It is not a certificate of ownership, and it is not the rest of a used iPhone inspection.
Still check these
- Find My iPhone. Clean on GSMA and ON in Find My is a common pairing.
- SIM lock. Clean does not mean unlocked.
- MDM. A supervised work phone can have a spotless IMEI.
- Serial number warranty check. The IMEI result has no coverage date.
- The physical match. The clean number must be the number in Settings on that phone.
How to say it back to the seller
If the listing says clean IMEI, ask for the Find My result and read About yourself. A PDF of a blacklist page, with no date and no matching serial, is not the same as running the check while you stand there. Use a clean result as one passing line. Do not use it as the whole decision.
