iPhone Lost Mode: What the Check Should Say

Lost Mode on a Find My iPhone check means the owner has marked the device lost. Do not pay, and do not expect a buyer unlock.

iPhone Lost Mode is a status inside Find My. The Apple Account owner marks the device lost. The phone can show a lock screen with a message and a contact number. A Find My iPhone check that says Lost Mode is not a soft warning. It means the owner still controls the device and has said it should not be in someone else’s hands.

Lost Mode versus a blacklist

Lost Mode is Apple’s flag. A GSMA blacklist check is a carrier flag. A phone can be in Lost Mode and still look clean on a blacklist, because the owner may never have told a carrier. The opposite happens too: a blocked IMEI with Find My off. If either result is bad, do not average them into a “mostly fine” purchase.

What you can and cannot do

You cannot clear Lost Mode from the buyer side. The owner removes it by turning off Find My or by taking the device out of Lost Mode in their account. If they do that while you watch, run the check again and confirm the phone is no longer asking for their Apple Account. If they cannot, buy a different phone. A lower price does not turn Lost Mode into a usable iPhone.
