iPhone IMEI2: Which Number to Check

IMEI2 is the second cellular identity on dual-SIM iPhones. A blacklist check on only one number can miss the other.

iPhone IMEI2 is the second hardware identity on models that support two lines, one physical SIM and one eSIM, or two eSIMs. Settings, General, About lists IMEI and IMEI2 separately. They are both 15 digits. They are not interchangeable. A report run on IMEI says nothing final about IMEI2.

Which one matters

Check the IMEI that will register on the carrier you care about. If you do not know yet, check both. A GSMA blacklist on either number is a problem for that line. Some phones in the used market were blocked on the original line and then described with the other IMEI only. That is why copying a single number from a listing is weaker than reading both from About.

What IMEI2 is not

IMEI2 is not the serial number, and it is not the EID. The EID identifies the eSIM hardware and is longer. Warranty and AppleCare still follow the serial. Find My follows the device, not a choice between IMEI and IMEI2. When you are documenting a purchase, save the serial, both IMEIs, and the Find My result from the same visit.

  1. Open Settings, then General, then About.
  2. Serial Number is near the top. IMEI is further down. Touch and hold to copy.
  3. Or dial *#06# to show the IMEI.
  4. The IMEI is also on the SIM tray and on the barcode of the original box.
