iPhone Carrier Lock and SIM Lock Check
A SIM lock check says whether the iPhone expects one carrier. It is not a bypass, and it is not a blacklist.
An iPhone carrier lock check, often called a SIM lock check, says whether the phone is locked to one network. A locked iPhone expects that carrier’s SIM. An unlocked result means the report did not find a carrier lock. It does not promise that every band in your country works, and it does not unlock the phone for you.
Three locks that get mixed together
- SIM lock is the carrier. Another company’s SIM may not register until that carrier unlocks it through their own policy.
- GSMA blacklist is a shared report of lost, stolen, or unpaid IMEIs. The phone can still show a home screen and then fail to get service.
- Find My is Apple’s account lock. It can block setup even when the SIM lock check says unlocked and the blacklist says clean.
How to use the result
If you need a different carrier than the one named in the report, do not assume a shop can remove the lock on the spot. Ask that carrier, or buy a phone the SIM lock check calls unlocked. Then put your own SIM in and confirm it registers. A paper result is not a substitute for a signal test.
Match the IMEI on the report to Settings. A carrier lock check on a number from the box, while the phone shows a different IMEI, tells you about the wrong device.
