AppleCare Coverage Check vs Limited Warranty

An AppleCare coverage check asks whether a paid plan is still on the serial. Limited warranty is the separate default coverage.

An AppleCare coverage check answers a narrower question than a warranty check. Apple’s limited warranty comes with the device. AppleCare and AppleCare+ are optional plans on top of that. A phone can be inside limited warranty with no AppleCare plan. It can also show an AppleCare plan after the basic warranty period would have ended. Read the labels. Do not treat the two dates as the same product.

What to write down

From the AppleCare coverage check, keep the plan name and the end date. From the warranty check, keep the limited warranty end date and the purchase date if it is present. If the seller describes AppleCare+ and the report shows no plan, believe the report until they can show the coverage on the device under Settings, General, About, Coverage.

What the plan does not include

AppleCare does not turn off Find My. It does not clear a GSMA blacklist. It does not remove MDM. A covered iPhone can still be a bad buy. Use the AppleCare coverage check when the price depends on a plan the seller claims is active. Use the other checks when the price depends on whether you can set the phone up and get service.
